“The ‘Political’ Dimensions of Ellen White’s Leadership.”

Valentine will explore the relationship between the informal influence through the charisma of EGW and the formal executive power represented in the GC presidency.

Speaker Biography:

Gilbert M Valentine, PhD., recently retired, continues to teach as an adjunct professor of Adventist Studies in the H. M. S. Richards Divinity School at La Sierra University, California, USA. His pastoral career has involved varied roles in congregational and conference youth leadership settings in New Zealand and Australia.  Mission service took him to teaching and senior administrative positions in Adventist higher education in Pakistan, England and Thailand in addition to his service in Australia and in his homeland, New Zealand. He has written extensively in Adventist history and Ellen White studies and is the author of J. N. Andrews: Mission Pioneer, Evangelist, and Thought Leader (2019), W. W. Prescott; Forgotten Giant of Adventism’s Second Generation (2005), The Struggle for the Prophetic Heritage (2006) a book on the history of the White Estate, and The Prophet and the Presidents (2011) a study of the political influence of Ellen White. In 2014 he co-edited with Woody Whidden, a Festschrift for George Knight entitled Adventist Maverick

Gil is married to Kendra Haloviak Valentine and lives in Riverside where he enjoys cycling around the citrus groves in his neighborhood.
