Building New Models with Spectrum

I’ll be brief here. I’m tired and I need some Sabbath rest.

It’s been a busy week for me – I spent it in Chicago. While there I visited the Buckminster Fuller exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Beyond the 4D, Dymaxion, geodesic thrills, this quote by ol’ Bucky resonated with me.

You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.

For 40 years Spectrum has been envisioning and helping implement new models of Adventism, ethics, church governance, hermeneutics, evangelism, family relationships, art, spirituality, Christian theology, science, and much more.

This website represents anther dimension and generation of this ministry. The success continues.

To date (new site – Nov. 2007):

  • 1.2 million pageviews
  • 435,204 visits
  • 200,027 visitors

We hit a new record of visits for 2009 on Thursday.

And thanks to the generosity of some of our community members Spectrum has raised $1025 for March Money Match Madness.

But this means that there is still $430 left in matching funds that we lose in the next couple of days unless readers like you pitch in a little.

I’d say $50 and you never have to feel guilty about skipping any fund raising stuff about this site ’til Dec.

If there’s one thing that this deeply troubling global financial industry crisis has taught me, it’s that before the End, I want to invest my time and talents in building new ideas that make the existing models obsolete.

As Fuller intimated, new realities appear not by blindly blathering on about change or whining about the past, but by actively building a model, in our case, of faithful community through conversation.

Thank you for your support in always, already creating a new thing.

Click here to donate a quick $50.

Whatever you give will be doubled. Let’s maximize this remaining $430 in matching funds.

We really appreciate you.
