Complete. Millennial Women Respond to Societal Expectations

This short film, written and directed by two Millennial feminist Adventist women, addresses questions of worth and personhood against societal pressure (perhaps especially felt in religious settings) to be in a relationship.

It features Danielle Baez, Upasana Beharee, Stacey Burcham, Vanessa Marie Dewing, Melissa Effa, Rachel Logan, Alexis Quinn, Hadiyyah Noelle Smith, and Renée Wylder. At a time when women's place in society seems called into question by prevailing political forces, these young voices ring out clearly.

Pacific Union College Names Eric Anderson President

Pacific Union College in a media release today announced that former Southwestern Adventist University President Dr. Eric Anderson will serve as interim president when outgoing PUC President Heather Knight steps aside in January 2017. The statement from PUC's media relations department follows:

Adventist Forum Announces 2016 Conference Program

The 2016 Adventist Forum Annual Conference, Non-violence and the Atonement, will be held in Silver Spring, Maryland from September 16-18. The keynote speaker is Gregory Boyd (read his Spectrum exclusive interview with Carmen Lau here).

Anna Bacchiocchi, Spouse of Samuele Bacchiocchi Passes Away at 77

Anna Bacchiocchi, the widow of Adventist theologian and author Samuele Bacchiocchi, was found deceased in her Berrien Springs home on Sunday, according to local news reports. Her son and daughter-in-law found her unresponsive. Emergency personnel determined that she died from exposure to carbon monoxide. Her dog was also found dead inside the house, which tipped off authorities to a potential gas leak.

NAD Leaders Will Speak at Church-Organized Rally Tonight in Washington DC

The North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists is responding to the shooting deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile with a march on Washington this evening. Adventist congregations near the North American Division headquarters have organized the march at which the division president and executive secretary will speak. The Seventh-day Adventist Church's Official Stance on Assault Weapon Sales: Ban Them!

The Pulse Massacre Sunday in Orlando, Florida has once again shone a light on the use of assault weapons in acts of mass violence. The Seventh-day Adventist Church has spoken clearly against the legal sale and purchase of such weapons.

The following is the Seventh-day Adventist Church's official stance on assault weapons, adopted in 1990. -Ed.

 

Seventh-day Adventist Church in Sweden Votes to Stop All Pastoral Ordinations

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Sweden announced today that like Norway and Denmark and Belgium-Luxembourg have done, the Swedish Union of Churches Conference will cease ordaining pastors.

Belgian-Luxembourg Conference Suspends All Pastoral Ordinations

The Belgian Luxembourg Conference of Seventh-day Adventists has released a statement announcing that the conference will no longer ordain pastors until women and men are ordained equally in the Adventist Church. The conference also announced that women will be given equal pay to their male counterparts.
