A Prayer for Ellen White and for Us

At 3:40 pm, Thursday, July 16, 2015, a small crowd of people gathered on the steps of Ellen White’s Elmshaven home in St. Helena, California to pause for a moment of silence and then prayer in honor of the co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church who died at that hour one hundred years ago in that house.

What’s Next? The New Agenda and the New Team

As the 60th General Conference Session in San Antonio came to a close, re-elected President Ted N. C. Wilson began to speak of what he envisions for the next five years. His three stated goals are: (1) Emphasizing Christ and His righteousness, (2) faithfulness, and (3) involvement of every church member in evangelism and witness. What activities will be initiated to fulfill the goals remains to be seen, but there were some early clues.

Testing, Testing... Electronic Voting Malfunctioning at General Conference

The 60th General Conference Session came to order on Thursday with 1,868 of the 2,566 delegates present, but the business session had barely begun when glitches started happening. First, it was the electronic voting mechanisms.

Editorial: What Might Be

As the clock ticks down on the current term for church officers elected at the 2010 General Conference Session, announcements of impending retirements are being shared and speculation about who will fill the vacant slots whispered in the hallways. The nominating committee that will be convened at the 2015 General Conference Session in San Antonio will be given the task of filling those slots in very quick fashion.

General Conference Spring Meeting Features Stories of Service and Success

While the primary purpose for the Executive Committee of the General Conference’s Spring Meeting is to conduct official business such as assessing the income and budget of the church, this year it also was a time for stories of service and success, to pray for the work in each division of the world. Only 78 of the 211 members of the committee had registered at the start of the meeting Tuesday, April 14, but a quorum is 40 so the proceedings went forward.

Is It Our Fault that Jesus Has Not Come?

In a new video created by the Revival and Reformation Committee of the General Conference for the 100 days of prayer preceding the General Conference session, the point is clearly made that Jesus has not come because the Seventh-day Adventist Church members and leaders have not surrendered fully to the leading of Jesus. Consequently the work has not been completed. This startling message and the truncated history portrayed to make the point concern a number of church workers who are digging into historical writings and asking questions.

Editorial: Spilling Coke on the Server

The ad for Coca-Cola that premiered during the Super Bowl begins with angry images. “I hate u” types out across a phone screen in a text message. Then at 12 seconds in, a worker in a room filled with computer server equipment, spills his bottle of Coca-Cola on the machine and the sugary drink is shown flowing through the cables, working miracles in reconciling and changing angry people into laughing, smiling souls.
