Oakwood Student Selected to Attend Obama Inauguration

The South-Central Conference reports:
The University Presidential Inaugural Conference (UPIC) selects and invites young scholars, outstanding student alumni from around the world to attend annually the inauguration. This year it will truly be an historic event, the swearing in of the First African American President, Barack Hussein Obama. It is a high honor to be considered and accepted by UPIC. Nicole Delores Frazier, an outstanding scholar is on that list.
Miss Frazier is the oldest daughter of Pastor Albert and Mrs. Claudette Frazier. The Fraziers serve the First Love and Emmanuel SDA churches in Paducah and Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Nicole also has two younger sisters, Rachel and Ashley.
Nicole, now a student at Oakwood University, Huntsville, Alabama, was nominated as one of several hundred High School students in the summer of 2006 to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine. This was due in part to her leadership and academic performance (4.26 GPA). Students from across America were elected to attend several institutions as future pre-med students. She chose to visit Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. “It was a wonderful learning experience to participate with other young people from across the country,” says Nicole, who also stated, “I shall never forget that marvelous privilege given me.”
Her experience with the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine and academic status qualified her for this invitation to attend the University Presidential Inaugural Conference 2009. Qualifications to attend the UPIC are strict, as it is held exclusively for alumni of the National Youth Leadership Forum, the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, the International Scholar Laureate Program, and members of select honors societies. Inaugural Scholars must be enrolled in a post-secondary program at the time they attend the UPIC.
The UPIC will honor these scholars as distinguished young leaders and accomplished students. As an Inaugural Scholar, Nicole will share in five days (January 17-21, 2009) of special events and activities commemorating the Inauguration of the President and Vice President. She will gain a deeper understanding of the history behind the electoral process and be inspired by the richness of tradition surrounding the peaceful transition of power to our next leader.
Miss Frazier will be a special guest on the National Mall the morning of January 20, 2009 as the 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Hussein Obama, is sworn into office.
She will experience firsthand the grandeur of the inaugural parade and presidential motorcade as the President and Vice President proceed from the United States Capitol Building to the White House, and concluding the Inauguration Day, she will attend a Black Tie Gala to further honor and celebrate this monumental event.
At the Conference, Nicole will have the opportunity to meet White House officials, congressional staff, presidential historians, political experts and commentators—leading decision makers who will actively shape and implement the policies that will guide our country in the years to come.
Finally, she will explore historic sites in and around our nation’s capital and be inspired by keynote speakers: former Secretary of State, General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.), Nobel Peace Prize winner and former Vice President Al Gore, and Eric Weihenmayer, Filmmaker, Mountaineer, and Author of Touch the Top of the World: A Blind Man’s Journey to Climb Farther than the Eye Can See. Scholars will receive an autographed copy of his book.
