Cuban Adventism

By Alexander Carpenter

just caught this Latino USA radio program on NPR. It features a musical
group – all recent converts to Adventism, who are vegan – as they
navigate skeptical church members and the communist control of the
recording industry. Unfortunately, the contributor gets the day of worship wrong. . .
Listen to Cuban Muscians with a Message:
“The communist island of Cuba was largely Catholic when Fidel Castro
came to power in 1959. For four decades, religion was banned by the
state until the collapse of the Soviet Union. But rather than a simple
return to Catholicism, Cubans are joining protestant sects at a growing
rate. Contributor Lygia Navarro traveled to western Cuba recently,
where she found a group of young Christian musicians bringing their
unorthodox message of faith to the countryside.”
