Terrie Aamodt and Julius Nam: “Ellen White’s Blind Date” at CZSS

(9:30 a.m. Pacific / 11:30 a.m. central / 12:30 p.m. eastern)

Terrie Aamodt and Julius Nam will present “Ellen White's Blind Date” for the Choir Zoom Sabbath School at Pacific Union College on Saturday, October 7.

Knowing that many leading scholars of American religion knew little or nothing about Ellen White, in 2009 we, along with our colleagues Ron Numbers and Gary Land, organized a conference to introduce her to that audience. We invited several dozen scholars to help us refine chapter drafts for an eventual book, Ellen Harmon White: American Prophet (Oxford University Press, 2014). Nine years later, we will describe our experience of the conference, the editing process, and the legacy of Numbers and Land for Adventist historiography.

Terrie Aamodt is professor of history emerita at Walla Walla University.
Julius Nam previously taught religion at PUC and Loma Linda University. He is a government attorney in Washington, DC and Los Angeles.
