“Pilgrimages, Silence, Icons, and Awe: What I Have Learned from Other Christians”
Eric Anderson will present.
Eric Anderson is an historian well-known to members of the Choir Room Sabbath School (Zoom and pre-Zoom). Over the last two decades he has been actively involved in learning about “contemplative Christianity,” or the spiritual disciplines. A normally talkative person, he has attended 15 or 20 silent retreats, in venues ranging from an Episcopal retreat house to a Trappist monastery to private homes. He has also been a regular worshipper in interdenominational TaizĂ© services. Earlier this year, he helped organize the first Choir Room Retreat at PUC’s Albion Field Station. He is currently involved in planning a second retreat, March 15-17, 2024.
It is his conviction that Seventh-day Adventism is strengthened by seeking (in the words of the old hymn) the Living Word beyond the Sacred Page. A connoisseur of provocative titles, he once gave a public lecture entitled “I Admit It: I Am a Christian Mystic (And So Was Ellen White).”
