Faith and Reason Sabbath School: Olive Hemmings on the Meaning of Christ

Faith and Reason Sabbath School meets Sabbath, January 6, 10:00 am. Socializing starts at 9:30am Eastern.

This Sabbath  Olive Hemmings presents on the topic “The Meaning of CHRIST: An Areligious Spirituality”.  Hemmings notes that the term “Christ” and the term “Messiah” are synonymous terms meaning, “anointed one”. To trace the term from its biblical contextual origins is to discover that the term “Christ” ultimately describes a deep spirituality that cannot be religion centric because it has profound cosmic reach. Christendom in general has veered from this fundamental view of Christ in the primitive church. Hemmings says that her “Sabbath School presentation is not a repudiation of religion, but a call to embrace the essence of our spiritual vocation as Christians.”

Besides sounding her bold and prophetic voice (hers is one of too few) in our community, Olive Hemmings is Chair of the Department Religion and Professor of Religions and Ethics at Washington Adventist University.

Upcoming Sabbaths:

January 13, Rolf Pohler, Friedensau University

January 20, Zane Yi, Loma Linda University
