Faith and Reason Aug. 10: “A First Amendment Guide to Religion in Public Schools”
Faith and Reason Sabbath School meets Sabbath, August 10, 10:00 AM, Eastern. Socializing starts at 9:30. This Sabbath Charles Haynes presents to us on “Competing Religious Visions of America: John Winthrop, Roger Williams and the Rise of Christian Nationalism.”
For more than three decades Charles has been a nationally recognized champion of liberty of conscience, religious liberty and civil discourse in American public life. He is the longterm chair of the Freedom Forum Committee on Religious Liberty and has authored or co-authored fourteen books, including “Finding Common Ground: A First Amendment Guide to Religion in Public Schools,” and is a frequent guest on network television. He was the principal drafter of eleven consensus guides on the role of religious freedom in public education. Christian Nationalism wasn’t an Adventist topic 20 years ago, but it is now, as certain Adventist leaders self identify as Christian Nationalists and others suggest that Adventist historic views of the separation of church and state are a misunderstanding.
