CZSS May 4: “Seeking Thin Places – Reimagining Spiritual Disciplines”
“Seeking Thin Places: Reimagining Spiritual Disciplines” is the topic in CZSS on May 4 at 9:30 A.M., Pacific. Tammy McGuire will present.
This presentation will explore the intersection of “thin places,” the pursuit of “adventure,” the use of “fun scale,” and the practice of “spiritual disciplines.” How might thinking about outdoor adventures as a type of spiritual discipline change how those experiences are viewed, practiced, valued, and prioritized? How might the “fun scale” influence how adventures to “thin places” are pursued?
Dr. McGuire has served as a professor in Pacific Union College’s Communication Department for the last 18 years. A “reformed English teacher,” she taught high school English for a number of years at academies in Missouri and Washington state before earning her Communication PhD from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her list of adventures includes caving, kayaking, canyoneering, mountain biking, rock climbing, mountaineering, telemark skiing, and backpacking for multiple days or weeks at a time in places such as the John Muir trail in the Sierras, the Continental Divide trail in the Rockies, and the “Haute Route” in Switzerland, to name a few.
We meet from 9:30 – 10:45.
