CZSS Aug. 17:”Providence or Mammon? Nineteenth-century Adventist Views of Technology”

This Saturday, August 17, the Choir Zoom Sabbath School meets at 9:30 AM, Pacific. Willy Logan will present “Providence or Mammon? Nineteenth-century Adventist Views of Technology.”

Things were changing fast in the mid-19th century, when Adventism began. From steam presses to telegraphs to railroads, it was becoming easier and easier for ideas, goods, and people to move around the United States. What did early Adventists think about these changes, and how did they fit them into their prophetic worldview?

Logan taught history at PUC for five years before moving to colder and flatter Nebraska a year ago, where he now teaches at Union Adventist University. He holds a PhD in History of Technology from Auburn University is the author of A Technological History of Cold-War India, 1947-1969: Autarky and Foreign Aid (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022). He and his wife Verónica have a 13th-month-old daughter, Harriet.
