“An American Original and America’s Original Sin: The D.C. Drama Over the Color Line and Its Significance for the Vocation of Adventism”

Speaker Biography:

Douglas Morgan is a graduate of Union College (BA, theology, 1978) in Lincoln, Nebraska and the University of Chicago (PhD, history of Christianity, 1992).

He has served on the faculties of Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, Maryland and Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee, and is an assistant editor of the Encyclopedia of Seventh-day Adventists.

He was editorial director of the Collegiate Quarterly (1982-1986) and a co-founder and director of Adventist Peace Fellowship (2002-2010).

Morgan is author of Adventism and the American Republic (University of Tennessee Press, 2001), Lewis C. Sheafe: Apostle to Black America (Review and Herald, 2010), and, most recently, Change Agents: The Lay Movement that Challenged the System and Turned Adventism Toward Racial Justice (Oak & Acorn, 2020).

Douglas and his wife Barbara Williams-Morgan reside in Brooklyn, New York.
