Asheville Forum: John Jones
John R. Jones currently serves on the faculty of the H.M.S. Richards Divinity School of La Sierra University, in the areas of New Testament studies, and world religions. Raised in the Republic of the Philippines, where his parents were teaching at Philippine Union College (now Adventist University of the Philippines), he is an alumnus of Walla Walla University (B.A., theology), Andrews University (MA, systematic theology; MDiv, New Testament), and Vanderbilt University (MA, Asian religions; PhD, New Testament studies).
Jones was ordained to the gospel ministry in Hong Kong in January of 1968, while serving as chair of the Department of Theology at South China Union College (now Hong Kong Adventist College). He has also served on the faculties of the Asia Adventist Theological Seminary (Adventist International Institute for Advanced Studies) and of La Sierra University, where he was dean of the School of Religion from 1990-2006.
Author of several articles and of Introducing Religion, an on-line textbook in religious studies, Jones has served as visiting professor and on accreditation teams on Adventist campuses in a wide variety of settings in Asia and Africa. Since 1997 he has been a panelist on the weekly program “Searching for Answers” on LLBN TV, reaching out to viewers in most populations of the world. His life-long focus has been on the intriguing intersection of human life and the New Testament’s good news, in diverse cultural contexts.
This meeting will begin at 2.30 p.m. on January 25. Please note we will be in a new meeting place because Dr Campbell has moved his dental office. The new address is: 430 McDowell Street, Asheville (2 blocks south of Little Pigs and across from Asheville High School).
