Asheville Adventist Forum Presents Bill Ramsay

The Asheville Adventist Forum presents:

“Partners in Protection: Options for Protecting Undocumented Adventists” with Bill Ramsay.

Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 2:30 p.m.

About the Speaker:

Bill Ramsey, who spoke memorably to us two years ago, is a native of Georgia. He worked for the American Friends Service Committee in the Southeast and in St. Louis, where he lived in inner-city neighborhoods for 32 years and founded the Human Rights Action Service. His work has included work with the United Farmworkers Union, and with Haitian, Nigerian, Bosnian, Palestinian, Iraqi, Afghani, and Central American immigrant communities. Presently, he coordinates a congregational sanctuary working group of the Western North Carolina Sanctuary Movement. He and his spouse, Joyce Hollyday, who works with immigrant women living in Madison County, were a part of a United Church of Christ witness on the US/Mexico border in late August of this year.

Bill Ramsay’s comments on his presentation “Partners in Protection: Options for Protecting Undocumented Adventists”:

“Partners” indicates bringing English and Spanish speaking Adventists together. “Options” indicates that “protection” can be offered in many ways. “Undocumented Adventists” indicates that the discussion will be based on the experiences of Spanish-speaking Adventists. He hopes to arrange simultaneous translation. Members from some of the local Spanish-speaking Adventist churches have accepted our invitation.

There are 8 Adventist Spanish-speaking congregations in and around Asheville. In those, I am aware of almost all the adult members who are undocumented. These are among the “strangers” that Jesus mentioned in the story about the sheep and the goats in Matthew 25.

Location: the Asheville Adventist Forum meetings are held very close to downtown, in the dental office of Dr. Dennis Campbell:

172 Asheland Ave
Asheville, NC 28801
