Oakwood University’s Official Statement Regarding OUAA’s Loss of Tax Exemption Status

On March 29, 2018, the Integrated Marketing and Public Relations department of Oakwood University released the following statement. Oakwood University is a Seventh-day Adventist institution, an official entity of the North American Division, and is recognized as a Historically Black College and University (HBCU).

Atlantic Union College Students Threaten Lawsuit; AUC and Andrews University Respond

In the days leading up to Atlantic Union College’s announcement that it would close, students on campus formed a petition, calling AUC a scam, demanding an open apology and their money back, and alleging that the College had misled them in regard to its articulation agreement with Andrews University. 

BREAKING: Atlantic Union College Will Close

Atlantic Union College announced today, February 21, it will close at the end of the current semester. The Adventist college in Lancaster, Massachusetts has been in operation for almost 140 years. It closed in 2011 after losing its accreditation, and re-opened in 2015 with the hope of regaining accreditation, but that did not happen.

Southern Adventist University President Addresses Student Concerns

On February 13, the president of Southern Adventist University, David Smith, PhD, released a video statement addressing the university’s black community. In response to questions and concerns raised by students, the video shares Southern’s plans to better meet the needs of its students of color.

Racist Language Overshadows Black Christian Union Event at Southern Adventist University

On Sabbath evening, February 3, Southern Adventist University’s Black Christian Union (BCU) held its annual BCU Night. Titled “Past. Present. Future.” the event was an opportunity to “celebrate black culture together as one people,” according to the Facebook event description.

Unfortunately, during the celebration, Snapchat user “Southern Stories” (sau_stories) "snapped" a video, using racist language to describe the event:

Adventist University of Health Sciences Inaugurates Edwin I. Hernández as Its Second President

On Thursday, January 11, 2018, Adventist University of Health Sciences (ADU) hosted the inauguration of its second President, Edwin I. Hernández. The school’s founding President, Dave E. Greenlaw, Ph.D., retired just after the University’s 25th anniversary last July. Dr. Hernández served as ADU’s Provost for two years prior to succeeding Dr. Greenlaw on August 1, 2017. Under his leadership as Provost, ADU has sharpened their standards, embraced innovation, and expanded their degree programs.

Southern Adventist University Findings on David and Goliath Displayed at Museum of the Bible

The findings of archaeology students and professors of Southern Adventist University are currently on display at the brand-new Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.

Southern Adventist University Nursing Professors Part of Trailblazing Group

Two Southern Adventist University nursing professors were part of the first group of medical professionals in the world to earn board certification in the field of lifestyle medicine. The group includes 247 physicians and health clinicians who are now certified as “Diplomates of the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine (ABLM)/American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) and the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine.”

Andrews University Responds to Questions Regarding Its New Official LGBT Care Group

In October, Andrews University announced that the Board of Trustees had voted to “approve a plan for a thoughtfully designed, supportive group on campus for LGBT+ students.” The group, named Haven, has generated a mixed reaction in the weeks following. In an effort to address concerns, the University released an official statement on December 5.
