NAD Leader Becomes Highest Ranking Seventh-day Adventist Chaplain in U.S. Navy Reserve

The associate director of the North American Division Adventist Chaplaincy Ministries (ACM) was recently selected for promotion to captain for the United States Navy Reserve. The promotion will bring Washington Johnson, II greater leadership responsibilities through extensive oversight for religious programming, and counsel to members of the Navy Reserve’s senior leadership ranks regarding spiritual, moral, and ethical issues.

Long-Time Religious Liberty Advocate, Author, and Editor Passes Away

Roland R. Hegstad, an Adventist minister, public speaker, author, and editor, passed to his rest on June 17, 2018. He was 92.

Hegstad, a 1949 graduate of Walla Walla University, became an expert in international religious liberty. His work took him around the globe, to the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, beginning in the mid-1960s.

“Suffer the little children …” An Appeal from the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America

As Jesus was preaching in Israel, parents started to bring their young infants for Him to bless. The disciples became frustrated with this and started to push the parents away. Jesus responded with words that ring true today: “Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein” (Luke 18:16-17, KJV).

Adventist Women in Leadership Meet To Pray, Reflect, and Praise God

Last fall, during the North American Division (NAD) 2017 Year-End Meeting, a group of history-making church leaders gathered in a conference room for a lunchtime meet and greet. A conference president, three college presidents, several ministry leaders, and a few church officers — all women — gathered to reflect, share, pray, and praise God. Of the 14 women assembled, all of whom have made significant contributions in each of their fields of service, nine are the first women in their positions.

United States Court of Appeals for Tenth Circuit Rules for Plaintiffs in Kellogg Sabbath Accommodation Case

On January 17, 2018, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit issued a decision in favor of Richard Tabura and Guadalupe Diaz, former employees of Kellogg USA, who were terminated in 2012 for violating the company’s policy mandating work on Saturdays (the day Tabura and Diaz observed as their Sabbath).
