Loma Linda University School of Medicine Awarded National Accreditation for Pathologists’ Assistant Program

LOMA LINDA, CA—May 15, 2018 — Loma Linda University (LLU) School of Medicine’s pathologists’ assistant program earned national accreditation by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) for five years, the most an initial applicant can be awarded.

LLUH Center for Restorative Neurology named ALS Association Certified Treatment Center of Excellence

The Center for Restorative Neurology at Loma Linda University Health (LLUH) has received recognition as a Certified Treatment Center of Excellence from the ALS Association, a designation that marks the center as one of the select few in the nation that meets the highest standards of evidence-based, multidisciplinary care and services.

After working to secure the designation since he joined the department three years ago, Medical director Jeffrey Rosenfeld, MD, PhD, said the center received notification of the designation last month.

Loma Linda University Health Faculty Earn the First-Ever Board Certification in the Field of Lifestyle Medicine

Seven physicians at Loma Linda University Health received the first-ever board certification in lifestyle medicine, making it the organization with the largest number of newly-certified practitioners in the country. The certification was introduced by the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine (ABLM) at the Lifestyle Medicine 2017 conference in October.

Loma Linda University Medical Center – Murrieta Cancer Program Earns National Accreditation

Loma Linda University Medical Center – Murrieta (LLUMC – Murrieta), which opened in 2011, was granted a three-year accreditation by the Commission on Cancer (COC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) for its cancer program.

Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital Earns National Award for Top Quality

For the first time, Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital (LLUCH) has been named a Top Children’s Hospital by The Leapfrog Group, a designation that highlights its nationally recognized achievements in patient safety and quality.

LLUCH is the only children’s hospital in the western United States to earn the coveted 2017 designation.

A new medication to treat symptoms of sickle cell disease, developed following 25 years of research by a Loma Linda University School of Medicine alumnus, has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the first new drug for the condition to receive FDA approval in nearly 20 years.

Loma Linda University Program Enhances K-12 STEM Programs

More than 200 kindergarten through 12th grade teachers recently attended the seventh annual EXSEED Conference at Loma Linda University where they had the opportunity to dissect sharks, catch rainbows with pizza boxes and interact with a Loma Linda University sea turtle researcher in Honduras via Skype, among dozens of other workshops and experiences.

Orthopedic Team from Loma Linda University Health Responds to Quake-ridden Nepal

Loma Linda University Health deployed an orthopedic surgical team to quake-ridden Nepal on Wednesday, May 6. The six-person team consists of two orthopedic surgeons, an anesthesiologist, an OR scrub tech, an orthopedic resident, and a logistics and support person. They are currently on site at Scheer Memorial Hospital of Seventh-day Adventists with an anticipated return date of Friday, May 15.

A record-breaking $100 million gift to Loma Linda University Health was announced this week — the largest single gift toward the biggest expansion in Loma Linda's history, dubbed Vision 2020.
