News Headlines: Washington Adventist Hospital Breaks Ground on White Oak Facility (and more!)

Washington Adventist Hospital Breaks Ground on White Oak Facility. Community leaders joined Adventist Health Care administrators and leaders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in a ceremonial groundbreaking Monday for a new $331 Washington Adventist Hospital location. Washington Adventist is moving from Takoma Park to the center of the White Oak Science Gateway, a developing life sciences community bringing together medical researchers, businesses and retailers. The 170-bed hospital is projected to open in early 2019. The current location in Takoma Park will remain to provide other healthcare services. Malawi Adventist Women Clean Up Community. Women from the Blantyre Seventh-day Adventist Church spent a day cleaning the Limbe Market area where food stuffs are sold.  They also cleared drains and removed garbage from unofficial dump sites. Blantyre SDA chairwoman Mary Chimbalanga said the church believes that cleanliness is next to Godliness, thus, they were committed to cleaning the area. LLU Health Donates $15,000 to San Bernardino Police. Loma Linda University Health gave $15,000 to the San Bernardino Police Department. “In light of the San Bernardino terrorist attack, we want to do our part to ensure the safety of those who selflessly put their lives on the line for us every day,” said Trevor Wright, chief operating officer of Loma Linda University Medical Center.  The funds will be used toward the purchase of safety equipment. AHS Shares Wellness Model with Communities Worldwide. “Churches and other organizations all over the world are teaching CREATION Health,” according to  Kaylee Landress, marketing coordinator for Gordon Hospital in Calhoun, Georgia, which is a member of Adventist Health System.  “The series was originally developed by Adventist Health System (AHS) as a guide on how to live a lifestyle according to the Bible, given in the story of creation in the book of Genesis, and is used as a wellness model in all AHS hospitals,” said Landress.  The seminars focus on eight health principles: choice, rest, environment, activity, trust, interpersonal relationships, outlook, and nutrition. Cayman Island Church Steps It Up for Gender Equality. Politicians, educators, business people and other members of the public attended a service honoring women at Kings Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Cayman Islands. During the Sabbath service, which launched Honoring Women Month, Miriam Foster, director of Cayman’s Family Resource Centre, received an award for her work in services for youth, women and families, and her leadership of the center. The theme of the month is “Step It Up For Gender Equality.” From Cayman Compass, "Church service launches Honoring Women Month."
