Roy Branson: Pilgrim of Hope

Today, Roy Branson was laid to rest in a private family ceremony. A public memorial service is planned for Sabbath, August 8, at 4 pm at the Azure Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church in Grand Terrace, California.

Here at Spectrum, we continue to honor the enormous contribution that he made to the Seventh-day Adventist church through his years as editor of Spectrum, 1975-1998, by publishing selected pieces of his writing.

In 1976, he wrote an article in Spectrum titled “Adventists Between the Times: The Shift in the Church’s Eschatology” in which he outlined several different ways to respond to the delay in the Second Coming of Christ. The article spoke to Roy’s fascination with apocalyptic literature. He found material on the subject for the journal on a regular basis, and in 1986 edited a collection of articles on the topic called Pilgrimage of Hope.

Hope was something that Roy exuded to those around him. He always looked on the bright side of life and helped others to do likewise. In this article he provides a helpful perspective on how to do so theologically in regards to the Second Coming.
