Adventist Academy Goes Solar to Save Money. Highland View Academy in Hagerstown, Maryland will receive 100 percent of its electricity, 1.2 million kilowatts of electricity yearly, from solar panels installed by SolarCity, the largest provider of solar energy in the United States. New Visitor Center for White Estate. A new visitor center at the Ellen White Estate in Silver Spring, Maryland has opened after eight months of remodeling. The center is divided into two parts: one devoted to the life of Ellen White and the other to her ministry. It contains original historic documents, memorabilia, interactive activities, and a multimedia presentation. Hinsdale Receives Magnet Rating for Excellent Nursing. Adventist Hinsdale Hospital in Illinois has earned the ANCC Magnet designation for quality patient care, nursing excellence, and innovation in professional nursing practice from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Only seven percent of U.S. hospitals have met the criteria required. Hinsdale Hospital provided the ANCC with quantifiable data in a 350-page document which was independently verified by the organization through patient, nurse, and community interviews. Angolan Adventist Offshoot Kills Nine Police Officers. Members of a small Angolan Adventist offshoot dubbed “Light of the World” assassinated nine policemen in the central Huambo Province. The group’s leader José Julino Kalupeteka has been detained by the police. According to reports, members of the sect left the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Angola and started a group that Angolan President José Eduardo dos Santos has called a threat to peace and national unity. La Sierra University Enactus Team Places 2nd in National Competition. La Sierra University’s Enactus (formerly Students in Free Enterprise) team placed 2nd in a national competition behind Brigham Young University-Hawaii. Enactus is a non-profit organization “committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better more sustainable world.” More than 200 colleges and universities participated in this year’s Enactus competition.
