CUC Hires a Provost

Someone just sent this over – it’s from a letter to the faculty by the new Columbia Union College President, Weymouth Spence.
I am happy to report that the Columbia Union College Board of Trustees approved the recommendation for Dr. Susan C. Scharffenberg to join the administrative team here at Columbia Union College in the capacity of Provost effective July 1, 2008. I am also happy to report that Dr. Susan C. Scharffenberg has accepted the offer.
Dr. Susan C. Scharffenberg is a graduate of Walla Walla University where she completed her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Biology. In 1990, she completed a Ph.D. from the Oregon State University in Horticulture. She has thirty years’ experience in higher education with a focus on university science curriculum development and program management. Dr. Susan C. Scharffenberg currently serves as the Assistant Vice President for Academic Administration at Mission College located in Thailand. Her experience includes teaching, academic advising, supervision of graduate and undergraduate research, curriculum development, accreditation, recruiting, academic planning, and many other areas of academic administration.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Susan C. Scharffenberg to our learning community.
I would like to use this opportunity to thank the members of the Provost Search Committee – Ellie Barker, Gina Brown, James Bingham, Estevanny Jimenez, Elaine Oliver, Margaret McFarland, Katie Ramirez, Jean Warden, and Lee Wisel – whose time and contributions resulted in a fair, effective, and efficient process. Your input played a major role in the final selection. It is important also to give thanks and mention for the participation and input which came from faculty, staff, and students. Three outstanding candidates were selected for on-site interviews, and the final selection was a difficult one.
Thank you for all your prayers and support for the continued growth and development of Columbia Union College.
Sincerely,
Weymouth Spence
President
