Scenes From The 2012 World Choir Games

It was only about 2 months ago when the Aeolians of Oakwood University, under the direction of Jason Max Ferdinand, accepted the invitation to participate in the 7th World Choir Games (WCG) held in Cincinatti, Ohio USA—the largest and most spectacular international choral arts event in the world! The Lord saw fit to make the impossible happen by allowing the Aeolians to engage in this unprecedented journey of excellence through a transformed work of ministry and a musical legacy revolutionized through loving support and the blessings of God.

Present, past, and future Aeolians were called to embark upon this journey as there was less than a month to prepare learning and polishing 10-12 pieces, including the Latin piece “Cantate Domino” by Polish composer Jozef Swider. From choreography to the 15-20 hours of rehearsal within one weekend prior to the event, the Aeolians were on a mission to do their best for the Lord.

After much hard work, the Aeolians were spiritually and mentally ready for the challenge at hand. Yes, it was through much prayer, diligence, and hard work that the Aeolians became victorious in all three categories with all gold-medals and a Champion rank in the spirituals category. All the Aeolians wanted to bring to the 2012 World Choir Games was their absolute BEST so that people could hear of the MIGHTY God that they serve. Meeting and hearing PHENOMENAL choirs from all over the world was priceless. The atmosphere of the WCG was inspiring, encouraging, and uplifting.

The people of Cincinnati were often silent and in awe at the sound and powerful message of the Aeolians. Many of the people would approach the Aeolians after a performance and say that they had “never heard anything sung like that before.” The spiritual Steal Away, for example, arr. by Diedre Robinson was received with many in tears. Whenever the gospel of Jesus was sung by the Aeolians, a spirit of humility and joy filled the hearts of many. It was a trip like no other…..a trip that the Aeolians will never forget. Praise Be To God!!! It’s not about anybody but God! Always remember Jesus!
