Adventism in the News: Washington Edition
James Standish, who represents the Seventh-day Adventist Church at the United Nations, writes about Seventh-day Adventism and health for the Washington Post:
Last month, we took the mandatory modern American parent’s pilgrimage down to Walt Disney World. On Saturday morning, we got on the Web to find the nearest Seventh-day Adventist Church to our hotel. The answer? The nearest church wasn’t a church at all. Rather, it was a conference room in the Adventist hospital located in the Disney designed town of Celebration. The church was not by the hospital, but very literally in it – right across from the hospital’s fitness center, around the corner from the cafeteria specializing in vegetarian cuisine, just past admissions and downstairs from the wards. For an Adventist, this didn’t seem so strange.

Departing from the West Indies Union Mission, Jamaican Adventists get local control. The Jamaica Observer writes:
As of November 29 this year, the Jamaica Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (JAMU) will formally come into being, with responsibility for the five regional East, West, Central, North and North East Jamaica Conferences.
The new Jamaica Union will cater to the spiritual needs of 250,000 Adventists, making it the largest Christian denomination in Jamaica, and a beacon in the worldwide Adventist church.
The Denver Post reports that a woman at Eden Valley Institute died after jumping into a canal to save a dog.
