MMMM and the Obama Effect

With newspapers struggling to stay alive, magazines vanishing, television news budgets being cut, nonprofit journalism is a topic of the moment in big news media circles like The New York Times and The New Yorker.

Here at Spectrum, we understand the nonprofit life. We have always depended upon donors for approximately half of our annual budget. And that was before we took a leap of faith onto the internet. Advertisers have begun to help us fund the ongoing costs of our web operation, but it is primarily funded by donors.

With this fund raising drive we are asking you for a small investment in this nonprofit journalism of the Adventist kind. Knowing as we all do, that together we can accomplish so much more than alone.

The last U.S. election cycle saw a web-based donation revolution with many small donations making an enormous difference in the funding of the Obama campaign. We dream of creating a similar revolution in funding for this web site.

So this month – in a campaign we have whimsically called March Money Match Madness – an anonymous friend of Spectrum has provided a matching grant of up to $1000 total. The guideline is this: your gift will be matched up to $50 per donor. We hope with this added incentive to see many more friends step up to become financial supporters, even though the gifts may be quite modest.

Please, help us with whatever amount you can. Keep the revolution alive with your donation today.

Thanks, thanks, and again thanks, for reading this message and being part of the Spectrum conversation.
