I was leery about watching Lars and the Real Girl. From the little bit I knew about the film, it appeared strange, which could be good, and awkward, which, for my particular personality, is bad. It is a film about a man who thinks a sex doll is his girlfriend (not private lover, but public girlfriend). Enter everyone else stage right. How much more awkward could it get?

Blind Boys of 'bama mix Amazing Grace + House of the Rising Sun

h/t to Fuller Seminary grad. student Nick Zork for alerting me to this great The Blind Boys of Alabama rendition of Amazing Grace set to the House of the Rising Son. In addition to the great soulful sound, this recontextualization of the song returns it to its origins as a confession of personal salvation and social justice, in this case, abolition.
