Taking The Next Step

next

Thank you, Spectrum readers. You have made possible the next big step in the history of our organization. Jared Wright begins his work as the full-time managing editor of the Spectrum website today.

With the successful fund raising campaign of the past year, the Adventist Forum Board of Directors decided to invest the additional resources into the growth area of our audience on the web site.

Jared is no stranger to our online readers. He began contributing to the web site regularly in 2008. He even took a punch—literally–for Spectrum back in 2011 (this is Jared’s report of Elder Wilson’s talk where the incident happened. Jared mentions it in the last paragraph, although he does not say that he was the one who got punched: http://spectrummagazine.org/blog/2011/02/23/ted-talks-wilsons-presidents-day-remarks).

Jared met his future wife, Jodi Teale, during their freshman year at Southwestern Adventist University. He subsequently transferred to and graduated from Southern Adventist University. After graduation, Jodi and Jared served as missionaries in Thailand. Jared taught religion and ethics at the Ramkamhaeng Advent International School in Bangkok from 2005-2007.

Upon returning to the United States, Jared continued his theological education at La Sierra University where he earned a masters degree in theological studies in 2010.

He began his pastoral ministry as an assistant pastor at the Arlington Seventh-day Adventist Church and then moved to the Azure Hills Church where he has been the associate pastor for media and collegiate ministry for the past four years.

Expansion is the key word for what Jared envisions for the Spectrum web site going forward; expansion of news coverage, of Spectrum’s social media presence, and expansion of the audience. “I’d like to try to help ensure that the Adventist Church remains a place where people with a wide range of views all have an opportunity to have their voices heard,” he says.

As Jared begins his editorial work, Alita Byrd will move from interim blog editor to editor of the interviews section of the web site.

Our thanks to Alita for the stellar work that she has done in the past 15 months. Her interim appointment lasted much longer than anticipated.

Welcome back, Jared. And thanks again to our readers who made this important step possible.
