Three Angles News Plus – Adventists Win Right Not to Work Sabbath in Portugal

1. Portugal’s highest court has ruled that two Adventists have the right to not work Saturday shifts because of their religious beliefs. Adventists, Jews, Muslims, and others in Portugal have lobbied to be allowed to observe a day other than Sunday.

2. Texas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists is being sued for not protecting a Burton Adventist Academy student in Arlington, Texas, from sexual assault by a teacher/coach. The assailant has been convicted and is serving a 30-year sentence for the offense.

3. Florida Hospital in Orlando is being fined $4 million for serving Medicare patients twice in 30 days. Florida Hospital and three other hospitals have been given the largest fines, out of a total of $529 million in hospitals across the US. The fines reduce hospital care for seniors, thus saving Medicare money.

4. SDA church member Joenpu Loweal, a 27-year-old nurse, d ied after contracting the Ebola virus while working in her job at Phebe hospital in Liberia’s Bong county. The outbreak across three West African countries has killed more than 930 people during the past six months. Adventist officials recommend church employees and members avoid traveling to and from countries in West Africa affected by the Ebola epidemic.

5. Researcher Dan Buettner tells the Hufffington Post why Adventists live an average of 10 years longer than the average American: a plant-based diet, Sabbath observance, and community support.

Some time ago I was sitting in what quite possibly was the most boring church service I have ever been in. (No, I won’t tell you where I was.) There couldn’t have been more than 50 people in the sanctuary, and I’m being generous. We sang no less than 5 hymns. All hymns were sung in a dry, slow manner. The sermon seemed uninspired, barely prepared, and was presented with no sense of conviction. It felt like we were in church for three hours. We were in church for about 70 minutes.
