Bringing the Real World to Genesis: ‘Sciences of Satanic Origin’ – Adventist Attitudes Toward Evolutionary Biology and Geology

embryo-compare

Up to this point in the series, “Bringing the Real World to Genesis,” we have been reviewing some of the scientific data that leads to conclusions about which there is largely a scientific consensus, with anticipation that minor modifications will occur over time. The next couple of articles will consider the history of Adventist thought related to interpretation of Genesis that lead to the current Adventist predicament.

The first of these articles was authored by Ronald L. Numbers, and published by Spectrum in 1979. This article provides an excellent early historical background shedding light on how the Church evolved to its current state of thinking on matters related to Genesis. Those interested in a much more thorough treatment should refer to the authoritative volume, The Creationists, from the same author, Harvard University Press, 2006. This latter volume reviews the Adventist contribution to the subject of creationism, but does not focus exclusively on Adventists.

– Jan M. Long

To conclude our “Bringing the Real World to Genesis” series, curated by Jan M. Long, we are republishing 10 articles from the Spectrum journal. This is the sixth article. Previous “Bringing the Real World to Genesis” articles can be found here.
