Bringing the Real World to Genesis: Odyssey of an Adventist Creationist

ocean_floor

In the following article we meet Dr. Peter Hare for the third and final time in this series, “Bringing the Real World to Genesis.” However, this article is different in that he is not the author, but is in conversation in an interview setting.

When this article was first published back in 1984 I was very much a product of my Adventist upbringing on matters related to the age of the earth. In fact, I count this article as having had a catalyzing impact in pushing me to study some of the science issues a little closer. In this article, among other things, Hare discusses ocean sedimentation and the accumulating record of ocean biology that rains down on the ocean floor, it becoming an extensive graveyard that accumulates to a kilometer in thickness in places. He explains how these deposits are dated and the evidence for them having been created over an extensive period of time. As I have re-read this article now some 29 years after it first ran, I believe that it that can speak powerfully to Adventists in 2013. I hope you will enjoy it and that it will offer to you some important insights.

To conclude our “Bringing the Real World to Genesis” series, curated by Jan M. Long, we will republish 10 articles from the Spectrum journal. Previous “Bringing the Real World to Genesis” articles can be found here.
