Southern California Conf. Votes to Support Women’s Ordination

The following is a press release from the Southern California Conference, which covers the Los Angeles area.

At its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, the Southern California Conference Executive Committee, for the first time since discussion about the ordination of women became active in the church, unanimously:

VOTED to support ordination of women to the Gospel Ministry in the Southern California Conference, and, to encourage the Pacific Union Conference Executive Committee to take the necessary steps to implement this action.

The SCC Executive Committee took this action after:

  • receiving a report on three surveys (conference clergy, executive committee, region committees) conducted “to assess the views of key constituents on the possible ordination of women serving in pastoral ministry.” This conference administration’s summary of the study can be accessed on the home page of http://scc.adventist.org.
  • acknowledging strong support from more than 80% of conference clergy: the executive committee and the region committees.

This initial step opens the most inclusive way by which the conference will explore the viable implementation of this action in the conference territory.
