GC President Opens Bible and Science Conference

The International Conference on the Bible and Science opened with a big bang on Friday August 15 in Las Vegas, when General Conference President Ted Wilson told the assembled professors, scientists, administrators and pastors from around the world that, “If one does not accept the recent six-day creation understanding of origins then that person is actually not a 'Seventh-day' Adventist.”

How Much Does It Really Cost to Go to an Adventist College?

The moral case for doing a better job of giving Americans the opportunity to succeed is very compelling. The economic case is just as strong. If more Americans are educated, more will be employed, their collective earnings will be greater, and the overall productivity of the American workforce will be higher.

11:59 and Ticking

Decades ago, evangelists, preachers and Bible teachers loved to assert that the clock of this earth’s time was past 11:59pm and that time was very, very short for probation to end and Jesus to return.  The second hand on the clock was described as positioned at just seconds to midnight.

Growing Up Adventist: Community on the Borders

When I was about seven years old, Denver South SDA church updated their lower level flooring. The faded orange carpet dated back to when my dad was in Primary and stains had begun to evoke images of sickness rather than sunlight. Those in charge elected to use a purple speckled pattern as a replacement and it was installed throughout the basement. A dark purple border ran along the walls from the fellowship hall to the Pathfinders trophy case.

Subversive Worship

I'm gonna talk with the Prince of Peace

Down by the Riverside

Ain't gonna study war no more

Down by the riverside is one of my all-time favorite worship songs. I realized this while standing outside a Primary Sabbath School room on a Sabbath following a particularly violent week in the news. There’s no balm in Gilead stronger than the voices of children singing “we ain’t gonna study war no more.”
