La Sierra University Fills Two Administrative Positions

The following was sent to the La Sierra University community:

The Office of the Provost is pleased to announce that Dr. Carol Bradfield has accepted an appointment as the Interim Vice President for Advancement at La Sierra University. This appointment has been ratified by the University Council and the Board of Trustees and is effective immediately.

Dr. Bradfield has, for the past 10 years, served our university as the Associate Vice President for Advancement. Her doctorate, which was awarded to her by Andrews University in 2009, focused on the area of philanthropy.

The Office of the Provost is pleased to announce that Dr. Adeny Schmidt has accepted the invitation to serve as the Interim Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. This appointment has been ratified by the University Council and the Board of Trustees and is effective immediately.

Dr.Schmidt will continue some of her duties as chair of the Department of Psychology throughout the summer as we make adjustments in department responsibilities and as she completes some important projects.

Dr. Schmidt, who has served our university well during past years as a respected faculty member, dean, provost, and department chair, will share responsibilities with Dr. Nate Brandstater, who will continue in his role as associate dean.

Some time ago I was sitting in what quite possibly was the most boring church service I have ever been in. (No, I won’t tell you where I was.) There couldn’t have been more than 50 people in the sanctuary, and I’m being generous. We sang no less than 5 hymns. All hymns were sung in a dry, slow manner. The sermon seemed uninspired, barely prepared, and was presented with no sense of conviction. It felt like we were in church for three hours. We were in church for about 70 minutes.
