Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA)
was founded in 1979 to explore and nurture the relationship between visual
arts and the Christian faith. CIVA is headquartered at Gordon College, a non-denominational Christian
school in Wenham, Massachussets. CIVA has available for rental several traveling

Talmud: The Art of Ben-Zion
and Marc Chagall

This exhibit brings together artwork from
two of the most important Jewish artists of the 20th century and consists of 18
intaglio prints by Ben-Zion and 24 color lithographs by Marc Chagall on biblical
subjects.

The Next Generation:
Contemporary Expressions of Faith
Drawn from the inaugural contemporary art
triennial at the Museuma of Biblical Art (MOBIA) in New York City, this
collection of art from approximately 30 contemporary artists demonstrates the
wide range of Judeo-Christian art.

Silver: CODEX
VI
Created in celebration of CVIA’s silver
anniversary, this exhibit is a collection of 25 prints created by 25 artists in
response to a work in the collection of the National Gallery of Art, Washington,
DC.

Ordained to Create: The
Self-Taught Art of Southern Preachers, Prophets, and
Visionaries
Forty-three pieces showcase the passionate
and creative journeys of 15 southern self-taught artists.

Some time ago I was sitting in what quite possibly was the most boring church service I have ever been in. (No, I won’t tell you where I was.) There couldn’t have been more than 50 people in the sanctuary, and I’m being generous. We sang no less than 5 hymns. All hymns were sung in a dry, slow manner. The sermon seemed uninspired, barely prepared, and was presented with no sense of conviction. It felt like we were in church for three hours. We were in church for about 70 minutes.
