And So It Begins: Annual Council Diary I

Annual Council Diary I

Every five years the Seventh-day Adventist church holds a General Conference session to elect officers, vote changes in the policies and practices of the church, and review beliefs and mission statements. The Annual Council session of the General Conference Executive Committee that vets all items for that meeting opened Thursday evening. Speculation about how the issue of women’s ordination will be handled has been swirling about since the completion of the Theology of Ordination Study Commission ended in a three-way divide over the issue.

Real Names and the State of the Commentariat

And I think that taking such a strong stand on a disputed issue can be good.

Bible & Science Conference Reflections: The Silent Crickets

It seems that two species of male crickets in Hawaii have evolved an inability to sing so that they can escape killer flies.

Time for a Room with a View

As summer flows into fall, what could be a better way to spend a weekend than at the beach in San Diego? That’s what Adventist Forum will be doing October 3-5, and we’ll be staying at the San Diego Sheraton Marina Hotel. I tell you this because the deadline for hotel reservations at the special conference rate is September 3. It’s time to make that reservation.

GC President Opens Bible and Science Conference

The International Conference on the Bible and Science opened with a big bang on Friday August 15 in Las Vegas, when General Conference President Ted Wilson told the assembled professors, scientists, administrators and pastors from around the world that, “If one does not accept the recent six-day creation understanding of origins then that person is actually not a 'Seventh-day' Adventist.”

Ted Wilson and Dan Jackson's 2014 ASI Town Hall Meeting

The ASI 2014 Town Hall meeting on August 8 in Grand Rapids, Michigan presented and discussed questions about the Seventh-day Adventist church’s stance on several major issues including homosexuality, women’s ordination, the Spirit of Prophecy, the NAD moving out of the GC building, and the health ministry.
