A New Series—Creations

Introducing a new weekly series of visual media creations curated by Leslie Foster, a graduate of Southern Adventist University’s film program. Leslie Foster is a filmmaker, an urban nomad, and the executive director of Traveling Muse Pictures, a Los Angeles-based film collective.

I first encountered spoken word poetry when I lived in Germany and saw a group of American poets called The Morrigan perform on TV. I’ve been obsessed with the art form ever since. In this video, Joshua Bennet performs Tamara’s Opus, a beautiful, moving poem for his sister, at the White House.

Beautiful text art is hard to find, and this piece combines some great dialog from the film Helvetica with clever text animation to create a one minute exploration of graphics that always makes me smile.

Theo Jansen is one of my favorite living artists–he creates beautiful, eery kinetic sculptures that can be unsettlingly lifelike. This short BMW ad highlights his work.
