Kinship Expresses Appreciation to Church Leaders

The bill in the Ugandan Parliament that calls for the death penalty for gays who have more than one contact and those with HIV/AIDS, along with prison sentences for those who don’t report incidents within 24 hours, goes way beyond what is acceptable in civilized societies in dealing with the issue of homosexuality.

Seventh-day Adventist Kinship International is very grateful that the leadership of the church was willing to see those differences and issue a statement that distanced itself from the bill after a Union Mission Executive Director spoke in favor of the bill at Parliamentary hearings.

The church did not change it’s position on homosexuality, but recognized that human dignity, pastoral counseling and families were jeopardized by this legislation and joined every other denomination in America in denouncing this legislation.

Even those groups whose Conference last March prompted the legislation have sought to condemn the draconian legislation.

Thank you to the many thought leaders in the church who took time to encourage the church to speak out.
