Mega Clinic in West Virginia Provides Free Care to 1,700. "Your Best Pathway to Health," a free, Seventh-day Adventist—sponsored, “pop up” mega clinic in Beckley, West Virginia, treated the more than 1,700 people during a three-day clinic. Over 730 volunteers helped run the clinic, providing an estimated $6.5 million in free services. They performed 30 surgeries, saw more than 800 eye patients, treated hundreds of dental patients, gave 180 haircuts, and more than 800 massages, according to Celeste Ryan Blyden, communications specialist for the event. Adventist Volunteer Medical Workers Offer Free Health Care in Jamaica. A 50-member medical team drawn from the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean recently provided free health services over a two-day period to dozens of Portland, Jamaica, residents at the Portland High School, a Seventh-day Adventist institution.  Dubbed "Heart to Heart Mission of Mercy," the medical team has been making frequent visits to Jamaica. This team's members voluntarily took the time off from work for a one-week period, absorbing all the expenses of the trip. They also purchased wheelchairs, walkers, and other medical supplies. Shiloh Adventist Men’s Group Marches, Prays for Police and Community. The Shiloh Seventh-day Adventist Church men's group in Avondale, Ohio, marched from their church to the District 4 police headquarters where they prayed for the community and police.  The group is planning several more marches in the future. Ohio Food Pantry Involves Its Youth in Service to the Community. The Lima, Ohio, Seventh-day Adventist Food Pantry served 319 families in the month of June. A large percentage of the volunteers are the church’s youth. The pantry regularly offers 34 to 40 different food items from which patrons can choose.  Panera Bread donates bread items. The bulk of the food comes from the West Ohio Food Bank. Occasionally, the pantry offers clothing or hygiene items. The food pantry was started eight years ago by Jim Kell, a member of the Lima Adventist Church and is now run by Jerry and Sandy Hunt. ADRA Provides for South Sudanese Refugees at Juba Church. The Seventh-day Adventist Church compound in Juba, South Sudan, is sheltering 3,000 internally displaced persons. The refugees are taking shelter in every corner of the compound, including the church, classrooms, and offices. ADRA is providing emergency supplies to the group which grows to around 5,000 at night. An existing clinic on the compound has been providing healthcare to those who have fled. From ADRA.org, “3,000 Sheltering at SDA Compound and Receiving Care from ADRA.”
